Night After Night

Signs Your Child Needs Supervised Homework After School

Supervised homework after school helps most when the same problems show up night after night. You may find worksheets sitting half done at bedtime. A teacher may send a note about work that never came back. Reading logs and math pages may end in tears because your child is tired and you are too.

Many Orlando parents work theme park, hotel, and restaurant shifts that run late. When you get home after dark, there’s little time left to sit with a spelling list. At Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips, homework time happens at the center, so more of your evening can go to dinner, bath time, and family.

Bus to Homework Table

After-School Homework Help Built Around Palm Lake and Bay Meadows Elementary

Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips runs a before and after school bus for Palm Lake Elementary and Bay Meadows Elementary, both part of Orange County Public Schools. If your family is zoned for either school, your child rides the bus to school in the morning and back to our center in the afternoon. Afternoons include a snack and supervised homework time while the school day is still fresh in your child’s mind.

Our hours are built for working parents:

  • Before-school drop-off starts at 6:30 AM
  • Pickup runs until 6:30 PM, Monday through Friday
  • Flexible scheduling fits parents whose work hours shift

Our center at 6809 Daisy St, Orlando, FL 32819, is the closest day care to Universal Studios Orlando, 2.6 miles (about 13 minutes) away. If you work in the theme parks, hotels, or restaurants along this part of Orlando’s tourism corridor, you can drop off before an early shift and pick up after a late one without crossing town. Your child gets one steady routine at one place, from the morning bus to evening pickup.

The Same Core Parts

What a Supervised Homework Afternoon Looks Like at Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips

An after-school homework afternoon at Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips includes the same core parts each day, so school-age kids (ages 5 to 12) know what to expect.

  • Snack First

Snack is part of every afternoon, because a hungry child at the end of a school day has a hard time focusing. Snacks come from our on-site nutrition program and are prepared by our own cook.

  • Homework Time

During homework time, staff supervise, answer questions, and check that work gets done. The school planner helps staff see what each child needs to finish. When a child has an assigned book or a project to look up, the Library and Computer Lab give them room to read and research. After all that sitting, kids burn off energy with outdoor fitness on our playground, which has safety surfacing.

  • Storm Days

Central Florida’s warm months often bring afternoon thunderstorms. On stormy days, kids stay indoors, and the library, our Playtown dramatic play room, and the art room keep the routine on track.

Track Homework Progress With Live Camera Access and Teacher Messaging

Live parent camera access at Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips lets you see your child during homework time while you are at work. Classroom web cameras show the room in real time, so you can check in during a break.

Our app gives you two more ways to stay informed:

  • Real-time updates during the day
  • Direct messaging with your child’s teachers

If something needs attention, our front desk addresses parent concerns the same day. Our open-door policy also lets you visit anytime during operating hours, with no notice needed.

Many families move to the Dr. Phillips and MetroWest area from the Northeast and Midwest. Without a local friend to recommend a center, watching the homework room live lets you judge the program for yourself. Cameras show that your child is working, not whether every answer is right, so a quick look at finished pages at pickup fills that gap.

Licensed and Accredited

Gold Seal Credentials Behind Our Homework Supervision

Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips holds Florida Gold Seal Quality Care status, awarded by the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF). Gold Seal requires DCF licensure first, so our center is DCF licensed. We have served Dr. Phillips families since 2013.

We also hold two accreditations:

  • A.P.P.L.E. (Accredited Professional Preschool Learning Environment)
  • N.E.C.P.A. (National Early Childhood Program Accreditation), valid through April 30, 2027

N.E.C.P.A. reviews adult-child interaction and parent-community relationships. During homework time, that interaction is what your child feels most: how staff respond when a child gets stuck on a math page.

All staff meet or exceed Florida state credential requirements, and all staff are CPR/First Aid certified.

Ms. Yliana Gomez

Director

Our Director, Ms. Yliana Gomez, brings 15+ years of childcare experience. She has been with the school since it opened in 2013, first as a VPK teacher, then as Assistant Director, and now as Director. Ms. Gomez holds the National Child Development Associate (CDA) credential from the Council for Professional Recognition in Washington, D.C., along with the Florida Director Credential.

When you compare licensed providers in Orlando, you can check Gold Seal status with DCF.
