Outdoor Activities
Outdoor Activities in Orlando: Active Play, Sports, and Summer Fun at Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips
Outdoor activities in Orlando can happen almost every month of the year, so outdoor play is part of the full-day program at Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips. Your child can climb on the playground, splash in our water play area, and try soccer and ballet dance. School-age kids get outdoor time in Ladybird Academy after school care. Summer campers head out on field trips. As a Gold Seal day care center, we tie this play to kindergarten readiness. We’re open Monday–Friday 6:30 AM–6:30 PM. To schedule a tour, call our front desk at (407) 412-6908.
Run, Climb, Balance
Daily Outdoor Play Builds Strong Bodies and Social Skills
Outdoor play at Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips gives infants, toddlers, and preschoolers in full-time care a chance to move. On our playground, kids run, climb, and work on their balance. The equipment is shaded, and the playground has safety surfacing underneath.
The playground also teaches social skills. Waiting for the slide is practice in taking turns. Passing a ball to a friend is practice in sharing. These are core parts of social-emotional learning, which means the skills kids use to handle feelings and get along with others. Young toddlers often don’t know how to wait yet, and learning the words to use takes practice and gentle guidance.
Climbing, balancing, and playing in a group are all developmental milestones, the skills most children reach around a certain age. Each one helps build kindergarten readiness. Because Orlando’s warm weather lets your child play outside year-round, there’s no long winter pause in that practice.

After the Bell
Our After School Sports Program in Orlando Mixes Soccer, Ballet, and Homework Help
The after school program at Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips serves school-age kids from Palm Lake Elementary and Bay Meadows Elementary. Our before and after school bus runs to and from those two schools, so your child has a ride both ways.
Homework help is part of the afternoon, so kids can get their work done while the school day is still fresh in their minds. Outdoor time lets them burn off energy after sitting in class, and a snack helps them refuel.
Soccer and ballet dance are part of our enrichment activities and add structured movement. Free play is good for kids, but a soccer drill or a dance routine asks them to listen, follow steps, and work as a team. Ask our front desk how these activities fit into your child’s schedule.
Sun, Shade and Storms
Outdoor Fitness for Kids in Dr. Phillips Adapts to Florida Heat and Storms
Outdoor fitness at Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips is planned around Central Florida’s hot summers and afternoon storms. If you worry about sun and heat, our playground equipment is shaded, which cuts down on direct sun while kids play, and our water play area helps them cool off on hot days.
When an afternoon thunderstorm rolls in, play moves inside to our library, Playtown (our dramatic play room), and art room. Indoor rooms don’t replace open running space. They do keep kids moving, pretending, building, and creating while the storm passes. In Playtown, for example, kids act out roles and stories, which builds language and social skills even on a rainy day.
Summer My Way
Summer Camp Takes Outdoor Activities on Field Trips
Summer My Way Summer Camp at Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips gives kids ages 5–11 full-day care when school lets out. If you work through the summer, your child has a full day of play and learning while you’re at your job.
Camp runs in week-long sessions, and each week follows a state theme. Outdoor play is mixed with science activities and cooking activities, so kids get time to move and time to learn something new.
Every camp week starts with a Monday water day. In Orlando’s summer heat, the water play area and shaded playground equipment let campers stay active outdoors and still cool down.
Campers also go on two field trips per week. One of the trips on the Summer My Way schedule is Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake, which gives kids a new place to explore beyond our playground.

Enrolling Your Child in Outdoor Activities Starts With the Front Desk
Enrollment at Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips starts with a call or message to our front desk. Parents tell us their concerns get answered the same day.
When you reach out, ask about flexible scheduling. Our classrooms are Infant, Toddler, 2s, 3s, VPK, and School Age (5–12). Infant care starts at 6 weeks. We offer full-day programs only. Active kids need good fuel, so we serve breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack each day, cooked on site by our own cook.
Our academy is 2.6 miles (about 13 minutes) from Universal Studios. That can make drop-off convenient for parents who work near the theme parks.
