Social Studies in Orlando: Helping Your Child Explore People, Places, and Community at Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips
At Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips, Social Studies in Orlando starts close to home. Your child learns about family first, then community, then the wider world. We teach Social Studies in three ways. Preschoolers explore people and places in classroom lessons. Our themed summer camp for ages 5 to 11 brings Social Studies to life through weekly themes and field trips. School-age children get Social Studies homework help in after school care. We’re a Florida Gold Seal Quality Care day care center, and our preschool lessons follow the Abeka curriculum. We’re open Monday through Friday, 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM. Visit anytime during operating hours to see the classrooms and the Library.
Family, Then Community
Social Studies Lessons Are Part of Your Child’s Preschool Day
Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips teaches Social Studies as part of the preschool curriculum. Those lessons sit alongside early math with Saxon Math and hands-on science activities, so your child gets used to moving from one subject to the next, the way a school day works.
The Abeka curriculum gives each lesson a clear structure. Having a named curriculum helps you as a parent, too: when you ask what your child worked on today, you can get a real answer. For young children, Social Studies often begins with what they can see: their family, their classmates, and the people around them.
Structure doesn’t mean sitting still all day. Our creative play centers let children practice what they learn through hands-on play.
Story time sessions and our on-site Library add another way to learn. Books about different people and places give children words for new ideas. Afternoon thunderstorms are common in Central Florida, and when one rolls in, learning moves indoors to the Library and art room, so lessons keep going.
Language learning classes help too. We offer sign language for infants and toddlers and conversational Spanish from age 2.

Summer My Way
Kids Social Studies Camp in Dr. Phillips Each Summer
Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips runs Summer My Way, a Week-Long Summer Camp for children ages 5 to 11. When school lets out for the summer, your work schedule keeps going. Summer My Way fills those weeks with themes, field trips, and play, so your child keeps learning while you’re at work.
Weekly state themes give each camp week a focus, and our programs include Social Studies, science activities, and cooking activities. Campers also go on two field trips per week. One confirmed Summer My Way trip is Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake, a park many local families already know.
If you want a summer with a strong geography focus, ask the front desk which camp weeks cover maps, states, and geography themes. They can share the current summer’s schedule so you can plan the weeks that fit your child best.

After the Bell
Social Studies Homework Help in After School Care
Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips offers before and after school care for school-age children ages 5 to 12. Our bus runs to and from Palm Lake Elementary and Bay Meadows Elementary, both Orange County Public Schools. Your child rides from school straight to us.
After school, homework help gives your child time to finish Social Studies assignments. As a hypothetical example, say your child has a map worksheet due tomorrow. Homework time is the chance to finish it before pickup, so you have less to manage at home that evening. You’ll still want to look over the work together, since you know your child’s teacher and class best.
Our Computer Lab and Library support reading and research. A child who needs to look up a fact or read a chapter has a place to do it. After homework, children have snacks and outdoor fitness time.
Many Dr. Phillips parents work in the theme park and hotel corridor, where shifts can start early or end late. Our before-school drop-off begins at 6:30 AM, and after-school pickup runs until 6:30 PM, which gives you room on those early and late days.
What Ready Means
Social Studies Builds Kindergarten Readiness
At Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips, Social Studies helps children get ready for kindergarten. For Bay Hill and Williamsburg parents planning that big step, it helps to know what “ready” really means. Much of it is social. Your child needs to share, take turns, and understand their place in a group.
Social Studies supports social-emotional learning, which means learning to manage feelings and get along with others. When children talk about families and community, they practice listening to classmates and respecting differences. These skills matter on the first day of kindergarten as much as letters and numbers do.
We’re a Florida VPK (Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten) provider. VPK is free for eligible 4-year-olds, and at our school it runs during the school year only.
Our Step Up Program and Transition to kindergarten help children meet developmental milestones. Developmental milestones are skills most children reach by a certain age, like following directions or playing well with others.
No Waiting for Pickup
See What Your Child Learned Today
Ladybird Academy of Dr. Phillips gives working parents several ways to see learning during the day. You don’t have to wait until pickup to find out how your child is doing.
Classroom web cameras let you watch lessons in real time, and our app sends real-time updates about what your child did in class. You can message your child’s teacher directly, and our front desk staff address concerns the same day.
We also have an open-door policy. You can visit anytime during operating hours, with no notice needed. Many families move to Dr. Phillips from other states and have no local friends to ask for a referral. Camera access, the open-door policy, and direct teacher messaging let you check our program for yourself.
